Originally a tribute to the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day is now the fourth most popular drinking holiday after New Year’s, Christmas, and the Fourth of July. Besides the obvious health dangers of binge drinking, St. Patrick’s Day also creates a dangerous situation on the Valley’s roads and freeways. US TODAY

According to studies, the most dangerous time to be on the road is between midnight and 5:59 a.m., so be vigilant and if you drink, enjoy that green beer responsibly by getting a designated driver, Uber, or taxi to take you home.

Make a plan. Decide ahead of time who will be the designated driver or if you will hire a service, like Uber.

Buckle your seat belt. If you are hit by a drunk driver, reduce your chance of catastrophic injuries by buckling up.

Pick your route. It is often a good idea to take the roads less traveled as fewer cars mean less chance of an accident.

Stick to speed limits.

Try to stay off the roads after midnight.
